Fun Contests
S.W.A.R.M. occasionally runs contests that don't fit within the regular NAR themes.
The Six Million Dollar Rocket
The Six Million Dollar Rocket is a restoration contest using rockets donated to S.W.A.R.M. by former rocketeers from Wallaceburg and Pittsburgh. S.W.A.R.M. members can choose from a variety of rockets to restore. Once a rocket has been made stronger, faster, better than it was before, it can be submitted for qualification. After six qualified rockets are received, they will be judged for overall appeal. This is an ongoing contest with no entry deadline.
Saucer S.W.A.R.M. is a fun contest in which members build a saucer kit to be used in friendly competition. The first Saucer S.W.A.R.M. consisted of spot landing and craftsmanship. Ron Orr won the craftsmanship award; Matt Turner landed closest to the flag in spot landing.
Record Rally launches are held at some sport launches to remind S.W.A.R.M. members to focus on setting club altitude or duration records.
The Simulated Rocket Series features contests using computer simulated rockets and flights rather than actual models. OpenRocket or Rocksim are used to design a rocket that will virtually compete in one or more events such as altitude or duration.
M4 is a mix of different events using large models of 48" or greater length. It is flown in August when crops are likely to swallow up any smaller rockets.
