August 15, 2015
Attendees: Chris Halinaty, Matt Turner
Today's meeting was held during our lunch break at the monthly launch. Topics discussed were launch equipment, high power options, and Harvest Classic 2015.
At today's launch, we tested a new launch pad design that seemed to work very well. It is a 3 leg PVC pad with an adjustable gate valve that can accommodate a 1/8", 3/16", or 1/4" rod. The blast deflector plate used was a 12"x12" ceramic tile with a centre hole for the launch rod. Future upgrades might include an adjustable leg to allow for easier angling of the rod, T-feet for staking into the ground, and a rounded blast deflector plate. Construction of 3 more of these pads for use with our 4-pad launch controller was suggested.
Pros and cons of working with NAPAS on high power rocketry were discussed. Inviting NAPAS to run HPR launches at one of our fields would simplify HPR flying for SWARM members. Concerns included: number of attendees, scheduling of events, launch fees, and reasons for loss of NAPAS's last field. Further discussions with NAPAS on these matters will take place.
Events suggested for Harvest Classic 2015 include: Classic Model, Open Spot Landing, A Parachute Duration, and 1/2A Altitude (Altimeter). These events make a weighting factor of 40, which is the maximum allowed for a Local Meet. If members from PSC or another club attend, then Precision Payload would also be added, bringing the weighting factor to 56 (out of 60 possible for an Open Meet).

Attendees: Chris Halinaty, Matt Turner, Larry Broadbent
Today's meeting centred around the Thamesville Threshing Festival. The 12 Estes Up Aerospace rockets were finished off and 8 Estes Generic rockets were built. These will be giveaways at the Festival. Larry is to finish building the remaining 4 Generic rockets for the Festival by July 4, 2015.
An article about S.W.A.R.M. will be published in the Thamesville newspaper. Discussion of the article's content focused on a brief synopsis of S.W.A.R.M. and why to join, the wide range of activities possible in model rocketry, and the low cost of flying with our section. Chris Halinaty will write something up and submit it to the Festival organizers by Monday, June 15, 2015.
Flyers will be made available to hand out at the Festival, along with S.W.A.R.M. membership applications, and NAR applications. Flyers will be created and printed by Chris before the Festival (July 4, 2015).
Larry brought some newsletters from the former Chatham Rocketry Association. The first three issues of Chatham Rocketry Association Publication (CRAP) from the early 1980's will be scanned and published on the S.W.A.R.M. website. This task has been assigned to Chris Halinaty to be completed by September, 2015.
Matt is to find the address of our BlueWater Line launch site so that it can be submitted to the NAR for insurance purposes in case we need to use it for this month's launch. This is to be completed by Matt and Chris by Tuesday, June 16, 2015.
