Scoring:
Points will be awarded as follows:
- Carry a payload. This payload will be the same size as a Standard NAR Payload but will have a random mass of between 0.5x standard and 2x standard. This random mass will be different for each competitor and will be determined after submission but before flight simulations.
- Reach an altitude of 250 m
- Obtain a duration of 60 s
- Land a lateral distance of 100 m from the launch site.
Entries:
- 1 OpenRocket (.ork) file
- 1 motor choice
- Launch rod angle
- Entries must be received by April 30, 2020
Design Requirements:
Body Tubes
- All body tubes must come from the OpenRocket database
- Body tubes must not be longer than their default lengths
- Sections must be joined by realistic couplers, bulkheads, or transitions (with realistic shoulders)
- We will be launching from a 36” rod so at least one 1” x ⅛” launch lug is necessary.
- There must be a minimum of 3 fins (tube fins are not allowed)
- Minimum thickness is 1/16”
- Standard parachute/streamer materials available in OpenRocket must be used
- Only engines from the OpenRocket database may be used. NOTE: Previously stated only 24 mm engines could be used. Any size is acceptable.
- Motor overhang must be 0.5 inches
- Clusters and staging are not allowed
- Materials must be standard weights and thicknesses
- Rockets must have at least 1.0 caliber of stability when loaded with engines
Flight Conditions:
- 3’ rod
- 12.6 km/h wind (10% variation)
- 5°C and 1013 mbar pressure
- Launching from Chatham, ON
Disqualifications:
- Landing speed higher than 20 feet/second
- Speed at the end of the launch rod less than 50 feet/second
Scoring:
Points will be awarded as follows:
- S = 1000 – ABS(250 – A) – 3 * ABS(60 – D) – ABS(100 – L)
where
S is the score for the flight
A is the flight altitude in metres
D is the flight duration in seconds
L is the lateral distance of the flight in metres - The score for the event shall be the sum of the scores for up to two official flights. The highest event score is the winner.
- DQ: 0 points
- +100 bonus points for a static photo of an actual physical build of your design
- Early bird bonus points of +90, +80, +70.....+10 for complete entries received prior to April 30, 2020.
